Return Styrofoam boxes at BCH
If you’re on this post, you probably have noticed that some companies like Sigma Aldrich and New England Biolabs have programs that allow you to send back stryofoam boxes; the eligble boxes have a sticker on the styrofoam, and you just need to refold the cardboard flaps to have the return address showing, tape it back up and send it! But…where on earth do you send it from?
One easy way is to drop it off in the main mail room in the hospital, but this can be a little difficult to find the first time. Fear not! Find below detailed instructions and a map, and in no time you’ll have got rid of those pesky stryofoam boxes in a way that will have them reused rather than in landfill - what a win!
Enter the building; currently you can only enter through the main entrance by the Valets. Turn left and walk towards the reception desk, following the signs for the Hunnewell/Fegan buildings.
Continuing to follow the signs for Hunnewell/Fegan, turn right away from the the door leading outside into the building, towards a set of elevators end in the “ball wall”
Walk to end of this corridor, past the elevators and close to the ball wall (seen on the left half of image 3). Here there is a door to your right, with an ID card scanner reading “BCH employees only”. Scan your ID to get through this door and turn right.
Follow this long corridor past the IT office and a loading dock until you see the sign for mail room
Enter the mail room; you’ll see a desk manned by the mail room staff. You can just give them your box as it’s all pre-labelled, and they will make sure it gets sent
Celebrate, you just saved a box from landfill! Yay!
